Priests

I don't really know how to describe Priests, other than that they've been one of my favorite bands for a long time now. Their sound changes with each album, from the punk Bodies and Control and Money and Power to the more experimental, sometimes pop-y sound of The Seduction of Kansas. Nothing Feels Natural is a perfect blend of the two sounds, and my personal favorite album.

While their sound changes, the messages are consistent. Priests take on inequality, capitalism, and the futility of American two-party politics in each of their albums. Katie Alice-Greer is a great songwriter, and tackles these issues with intelligence.

The Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats are proof that divorced men make the best folk punk. Forget sadboy breakup songs, we got depressedman divorce anthems over here. If you're not into the sadder stuff, there's also a whole album about wrestling that actually manages to be touching at times. Their biggest strength is their lyricism- they can make a metaphor out of anything. The band has been around for nearly thirty years now, and is still going strong. Despite having a giant discography, their albums never feel repetitive.
